Intelligent Energy
Turn energy into an intelligent, revenue-generating asset.
We transform battery storage and flexible energy infrastructure into commercial opportunities.
Electricity is no longer simply something businesses consume. With the right technology, storage and intelligent control systems, energy can become an actively managed asset capable of generating revenue, reducing costs and supporting the wider electricity network.
Nodez Energy combines second-life battery storage, intelligent energy optimisation and access to energy markets to unlock value from every suitable installation.
By forecasting electricity prices, analysing grid requirements and coordinating when batteries charge, discharge or make capacity available, we aim to maximise the commercial value of stored energy.
From buying electricity when prices are low to supporting grid balancing when flexibility is needed, our approach is designed to create multiple potential revenue streams from a single asset.
Electricity prices fluctuate throughout the day. Renewable generation varies with weather conditions, while demand and network constraints create changing requirements across the energy system.
These fluctuations create opportunities for intelligently managed battery storage.
Our platform is designed to coordinate battery operation across several potential value streams, taking into account electricity prices, market opportunities, site consumption, battery condition and operating constraints.
Intelligent battery management
Coordinate charging and discharging based on market prices, forecast demand, available capacity and the requirements of the host site.
Wholesale price optimisation
Identify opportunities to store electricity when it is cheaper and export or sell it when its market value is higher.
Grid flexibility
Make suitable battery capacity available for eligible balancing, frequency response and local network flexibility services.
Host-site energy savings
Help manage electricity consumption, reduce exposure to expensive periods and improve the utilisation of on-site energy infrastructure.
Capture the value of electricity price fluctuations.
Wholesale electricity prices can vary significantly throughout the day. Periods of abundant renewable generation or low demand can create very low prices, while peak demand and tighter supply can push prices substantially higher.
Nodez Energy aims to monetise these differences through intelligent battery energy arbitrage.
Our systems are designed to charge batteries during attractive low-price periods, store that electricity and discharge or export it when prices rise, turning time-shifted energy into a potential source of revenue.
How battery arbitrage works
1. Charge during low-price periods
Our optimisation software identifies opportunities to charge when electricity prices are low, including eligible off-peak periods and negative wholesale price events.
2. Store electricity for later
Energy is stored in the battery, with decisions informed by capacity, efficiency, site requirements, expected price movements and battery degradation.
3. Sell or export at higher-value times
When market conditions are favourable, stored electricity can be exported or sold through an appropriate supplier, trader, aggregator or other qualified market route.
4. Optimise the commercial return
Compare arbitrage opportunities against eligible grid services, site savings and other available revenue streams to determine the most valuable operating strategy.
Turning negative electricity prices into an opportunity
At certain times, wholesale electricity prices can fall below zero when generation exceeds demand or the market has limited flexibility.
Where the relevant trading arrangements allow it, negative prices can create opportunities for batteries to be paid for importing electricity. That energy may subsequently be exported when prices recover.
The actual benefit depends on the site's tariff or trading contract, market access, network charges, battery efficiency and other costs. Negative wholesale prices do not automatically translate into free electricity or a payment for every battery installation.
Our objective is to identify the opportunities where the full economics make sense.
Working with energy suppliers and trading partners
Nodez aims to develop commercial relationships with licensed electricity suppliers, energy traders, aggregators and other qualified market participants to access wholesale electricity markets.
Potential counterparties include established suppliers such as Octopus Energy and other suitable market participants, subject to commercial agreements and the applicable route to market.
Through these arrangements, we aim to turn stored electricity into a flexible, revenue-generating asset while supporting a more responsive energy system.

Grid balancing: supporting a more resilient electricity network

Electricity supply and demand must remain balanced in real time. As renewable generation grows and the energy system changes, flexibility is increasingly important.
Battery storage can respond rapidly by adjusting electricity consumption or export, helping provide services needed to maintain reliable system operation.
Nodez Energy aims to participate in appropriate flexibility markets directly where eligible, or through qualified partners.
NESO balancing and frequency response
The National Energy System Operator procures services to help maintain electricity system balance and frequency. Suitable battery assets may be able to participate in eligible services, subject to qualification and commercial arrangements.
DNO local flexibility
Distribution network operators can procure flexibility to manage local congestion, reduce network constraints and defer some infrastructure upgrades. Nodez aims to identify and participate in suitable local opportunities.
Balancing and settlement arrangements
Elexon administers the Balancing and Settlement Code and associated electricity balancing and settlement processes. Nodez will work within relevant arrangements and with appropriate counterparties to access suitable opportunities.

Intelligent optimisation across multiple markets
The strongest opportunity is not necessarily to operate a battery in one market all the time. It is to identify which combination of services creates the best overall value, while respecting the battery's technical and contractual limits.
Our optimisation approach is designed to assess:
- Wholesale electricity prices and forecasts.
- Battery charge level, power limits and round-trip efficiency.
- Potential arbitrage margins after relevant costs.
- Grid service availability and contractual commitments.
- Host-site demand and electricity savings.
- Battery degradation and maintenance requirements.
This allows each asset to be managed as part of an integrated energy strategy rather than as a standalone storage device.

Value for host sites and asset owners
Nodez is developing a model that makes intelligent energy infrastructure accessible to suitable commercial and residential host sites.
Depending on the installation and commercial agreement, potential benefits include:
- A share of eligible revenues or energy savings.
- Reduced exposure to high electricity prices.
- Revenue opportunities from battery arbitrage.
- Potential payments for qualifying grid flexibility.
- Better visibility and management of energy use.
- Integration with additional services such as on-site computing and heat recovery.
The actual commercial model will depend on site suitability, connection arrangements, market access, asset performance and agreed revenue sharing.

Building the distributed energy network
We believe the future of energy will be more decentralised, intelligent and flexible.
By connecting distributed batteries and coordinating their operation, Nodez aims to build an infrastructure network capable of supporting the electricity system while creating commercial value for its participants.
